Sunday morning

There is something about cradling a bowl in your arm,
and watching how the flour, eggs, oil, vanilla and milk
all blend together with the motion of the whisk.
The smell of the batter frying in the pan, the warmth of
each pancake when you place in on the plate. How the
butter effortlessly melts into the pancake and how every-
one has their own method/design of applying the syrup.
The way the knife slides through the stack of pancakes,
and the pieces onto your fork and into your mouth....

Someday...

Someday you will look back at your mother and father and recognize a part of
yourself; the way you look, the way you react to life, to others. And what you
don't recognize you may look at your grandparents and understand why you
feel or look a certain way....and what you don't find in your parents, or your
grandparents is "you".

5: birthday card

Tomorrow you will be 5. I am excited for you because I know your mother,
father and Daniel have planned a very special day for you, where you will enjoy
friends, family, great food and presents.

I will miss being there terribly, and I feel like crying when I think about not
being there to celebrate with you. I love you Penn and wish you a very
special birthday. You are the best!
